FOUNDATIONS FOR VFX & GAME DESIGN CURRICULUM

TRIMESTER 01 Full Time - 15 weeks

Strong foundations serve as the first stepping stone to understanding 3D and creating artwork for VFX and video games. This study period is mainly focused on creating 3D models, basic animations as well as developing textures and materials. These are core skills in the CG Industry and are relevant to all other areas.

TRIMESTER OVERVIEW

  1. Introduction to 3D basics
  2. Introduction to 3D modeling
  3. Introduction to 3D animation

TRIMESTER 02 Full Time - 15 weeks

Taking students growing 3D modeling and texturing skills, we now expand into complex areas like character rigging for use in the Unreal Game Engine and utilise motion capture and animation to create a fully functioning character. They will also design environments for games, and create visual effects.

TRIMESTER OVERVIEW

  1. Character modeling 
  2. Rigging for animation
  3. UV layout & texturing

TRIMESTER 03 Full Time - 15 weeks

During this study period, you will work with your mentor on a final project and choose a specialisation. You can collaborate with other students on a group project or focus on your own work. The skills learned in this study period provides a pathway into our advanced diplomas.

TRIMESTER OVERVIEW

  1. Game engine implementation
  2. Final portfolio project
  3. Advanced diploma pathway

HOW IT WORKS

Start: Video Lessons / Start Assignment
  • Review the recorded lectures and supportive material
  • Review the assignment requirements
  • Begin researching and planning their week 
  • Start assignment 
Middle: Live Q&A Session / Feedback
  • Submit their first pass of work for the mentor’s video critique
  • Meet instructor online for a Q & A and critique session
  • Download and review recorded Q & A session and revise their work according to mentor feedback
End: Final Submission/ Recorded Critique
  • Submit their final pass of work for the week
  • Review additional recorded critique by their mentor working within their file
