WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Navigating Maya Lesson 01

 During this lesson, you will learn the basics of navigating in Maya as well as how to move around in the viewport and get familiar with the translate, rotate and dolly zoom functions.

 

Creating Objects Lesson 02

When you start modeling, you need to create objects. The easiest way to start modeling is by creating geometric primitives, such as spheres, cubes, cylinders, and planes, which can be the base for more complex objects.

 

Manipulating Objects Lesson 03

During this lesson, you will learn how to manipulate polygons, edges, faces and vertexes by using the basic 3D modeling tools in the user interface.

 

Selecting & Hiding Objects Lesson 04

It's important to keep your scene organised. In this lesson, we will go through basic selection techniques and how to hide and unhide objects to make you scene more manageable.

 

Object Settings Lesson 05

Explore object settings and learn how to create a proper base mesh to start working from. It's important to start off on the right foot so you can save time further down the track.

Using Modeling Tools Lesson 06

There are many ways to manipulate and object. In this lesson we dive deeper into the  3D modeling tool set and explore the various tools used such as multi-cut, extrude and bevel.

 

Creating a Basic Sword Lesson 07

To make sure you fully understand Maya's modelling toolset we'll walk you through the steps of creating a basic polygon sword before we get into the Lightsaber tutorials.

 

Creating Your Own Lightsaber Lesson 08-16

Now the fun starts! This series of lessons walks you through the processes of 3D modeling, texturing and rendering your lightsaber from start to finish. May the force be with you!

MEET THE COURSE  CREATOR

Steve Budd came from a background in traditional art, before a desire to bring more life to his work prompted him to make the move to study animation and computer graphics as a way of combining both skill sets. His early animation life began working on various children’s televisions shows, and in advertising for a range of post production studios around Melbourne. Some recent work has been animating on such feature films as TED and Ghost Rider 2 and through his own design studio, on various game, advertising and film projects. Throughout his career he has taught at various animation and gaming schools, and found that nothing is more inspiring or keeps his skills stronger than teaching an art form that he loves.
