We are CG Spectrum, the online school for visual effects, animation, modeling and concept design. As a part of our ongoing initiative to help support the Australian VFX industry we are offering scholarships to 20 passionate Australian artists to learn from the industry’s best artists from studios such as Iloura, Weta, Dreamworks, Ubisoft, EA, Disney and many more.

Our mission is to grow the Australian industry by fostering local talent into the most industry- ready graduates in the country.

Specialised Course Scholarships

A fully paid two-year Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media Scholarship will be offered to 20 passionate students with exceptional portfolios demonstrating:

  • Concept Design
  • 3D Modelling
  • Visual Effects
  • 3D Animation
  • Compositing and Lighting

Working together with Australian studios for successful careers in VFX

CG Spectrum and is working with local studios to secure the future of Australia’s best animation and VFX artists through scholarships and the opportunity to gain work through paid internships.

Concept Design

Concept Design portfolios should demonstrate:

  • Drawings showing a strong understanding of human and animal anatomy
  • Gesture drawing and life drawing examples
  • Full colour digital paintings (character, creature, environments, weapons, props etc.)
  • Examples of 3D Modeling would be a bonus

Animation demo reels (in either 2D or 3D) should demonstrate:

  • A strong understanding of the 12 principles of animation
  • Examples of physical animation (push, pull, run, jump)
  • Examples of creature animation would be a bonus

Visual Effects

Visual Effects demo reels (in either 2D or 3D) should demonstrate:

  • Examples of particle, fluid, hair and/or cloth simulations with shot breakdown
  • Examples of general 3D knowledge
  • Houdini experience as well as Python scripting would be a bonus

3D Modeling

3D Modeling demo reels (in either 2D or 3D) should consist of:

  • Drawings or 3D models showing a strong understanding of human and animal anatomy
  • Drawings or 3D models of hard surface (e.g. a weapon) and/or organic (e.g. a tree)
  • Z brush and Mari experience would be a bonus

Compositing / Lighting

Compositing / Lighting portfolios should demonstrate:

  • Photographs or illustrations that display a strong knowledge of lighting and colour theory
  • Examples of general 3D knowledge
  • Nuke, After Effects and/or VRay experience would be a bonus

How to Enter

Please submit a resume and cover letter with your name, address, telephone number and a link to your portfolio along with a paragraph outlining why you are the ideal candidate for a scholarship. We also require a reference letter from either an Employer, Careers Advisor or High School Principal.

Eligible applicants

  • Must be Australian citizen who has completed year 12
  • Not available to current students or Alumni of CG Spectrum Australia
  • Students must be able to dedicate themselves to full time studies
  • Scholarships awarded must commence study within 2 months
  • Must have a high speed connection and own a computer with specs outlined in the course brochure
  • All software and masterclasses are included in your scholarship

Terms & Conditions

Applications close 6 November 2015.

Short listed applicants will be notified by 13 November 2015 to schedule an online interview the following week. Scholarship winners will be notified 27 November 2015.

Your portfolio will be reviewed by our Program Advisory Committee, Heads of School and Department Heads who will each have an equal vote to decide who will be awarded a full scholarship.

Forfeit of Scholarship

Scholarships may be forfeited if the student:

  • Does not abide by the school policies and procedures
  • Is unable to continue their studies or require a deferral
  • Fails an assessment
  • Does not maintain a 90% attendance record and pass all assessments
